Speaker Topic

In addition to instructing us on how to create our own string art project (the cost of which is included in this month's registration fee), Kelly Arent will talk about the risks and rewards of opening Urban Garage Market (her amazing farmhouse meets Boho meets eclectic-style home decor/ apparel/ accessory/ sign- and furniture-painting Mecca!) one short year ago, and her very recent expansion into the front space at 408 W. Main Street in downtown Benton Harbor. What kind of support does a project like this take? How does one make such a commitment, and take such a risk financially? How does one overcome that niggling *fear of failure* that sits on the shoulder, and JUST DO IT?

Speaker Biography

As Copper Roof Interiors, Kelly Arent worked for years "redesigning and repurposing with style." She created beautiful spaces for clients that incorporated her talent for junking, creating custom art and painting furniture, one project at a time. Often though, client work means that personal creativity takes a back seat. And after years of working in the family garage it was time to set some boundaries between loving the work and staying married. Kelly recognized a common interest among local creatives and combined that with her passion for picking and making over finds, and Urban Garage Market was born in 2017. Finding the perfect garage space in downtown Benton Harbor compelled her to build it, and to have faith that they would indeed come. And they (we!) have...! UGM will be closed the first full week in March to prepare to open the doors on the new expansion and classroom space on March 10th. And Kelly welcomes us for EPWA on March 13th!
